How to Change Name in Aadhar Card Online

Unique Identification Authority of India issues Aadhar Card to every Indian. Nowadays, it has become mandatory to apply for Aadhar card. UIDAI provides a unique 12 digits Aadhar number.

The card contains individual details like Photo, Name, Date of Birth, and Address. Did you receive your Aadhar Card? Are the individual details printed on the card incorrect?

There could be typo errors or any other mistakes on the card which could raise problems for you while submitting the card for any purpose. The Aadhar card now gets accepted as an ID proof for different purposes.

So, you won’t like to get the submitted ID proof rejected for any errors in the card. If your name is printed incorrectly on the card, get it changed online by self.

Step by Step Process to Change the name in Aadhar card Online

Step 1: Visit the official website of UIDAI on your web browser https://www.uidai.gov.inClick on ‘Address Update Request (Online)‘ link featured on the homepage below Aadhar Update section.

Step 2: You will get directed to a new page where you need to click on ‘Proceed‘ button, for submitting correction request.

Step 3: On the new page, you need to enter your Aadhar card number as printed on the card and enter the figures as displayed in the image. Click on ‘Send OTP‘ button to generate the one time password.

Step 4: Enter the OTP in the provided box and click on ‘Login‘ button. 

Step 5: Now, you need to select the field you want to update, i.e., Name and click the Submit button.

Step 6: Enter your correct name in English as well as in local language and click on ‘Submit Update Request’ button.

Step 7: Again, confirm the correct name and click the proceed button.

Step 8: Now, you need to attach the original scan copy of the supporting document for the change request and click the Submit button.

Important Note: You need to upload the scan copy of the supporting document declared to be valid by the UIDAI.

Step 9: You need to confirm uploading the right document by clicking on ‘Yes‘ button.

Step 10: The next step is to select the BPO and click on ‘Submit‘ button.

The screen will display the URN- Update Request Number along with a message for successful submission of the request for changing name of the Aadhar cardholder. Use the URN to check the update status.

Get the page printed or download the file for future reference. After verification, UIDAI will validate the changes on the card and reissue a new Aadhar Card.

Within few days, you will receive the new Aadhar Card by post. Destroy the old Aadhar card containing incorrect data. Make sure not to use the old Aadhar card for any purpose.

The Online facility is a self-service initiative by UIDAI for making certain works simpler and convenient for the general public.

  • Sir, I have applied for aadhar name change I have given bank passbook as proof the first and last name in bank passbook is written with space but I have applied to change the name without space. Is this application rejected or approved please answer me?
